Early Career and Karting
Born in 1980 in Locorotondo, Bari, Liuzzi began kart racing at age nine. His progression through the ranks featured a victory at the 2001 Karting World Championship, a campaign notable for defeating Michael Schumacher at his own track in Kerpen. By 2001, he finished second in the German Formula Renault Championship, leading to a role with the Red Bull Junior Team in 2002.

After a successful 2004 F3000 season, Liuzzi entered Formula One with Red Bull. In 2005, he balanced duties as a test driver with select race appearances, scoring a maiden point at the San Marino Grand Prix. He moved to the newly formed Scuderia Toro Rosso in 2006, where he scored the team's first point with an eighth-place finish in the United States Grand Prix.
Progression with Force India
After a 2007 season characterized by mixed results and an eventual departure from Toro Rosso, Liuzzi served as a test driver for Force India. He earned a race seat for the final five rounds of 2009. In 2010, he achieved a career-best championship finish of 15th with 21 points, including a sixth-place result at the Korean Grand Prix and multiple points-scoring finishes throughout the calendar.
