Early Development and Domestic Success
Claesson began his professional journey with IFK Värnamo, making his senior debut in a 2009 Division 1 Södra match. Following a breakthrough campaign in the 2011 Superettan season, he moved to IF Elfsborg. His tenure at Elfsborg included winning the 2012 Allsvenskan title and the 2013–14 Svenska Cupen. In January 2017, Claesson signed a three-and-a-half-year contract with FC Krasnodar. He scored on his competitive debut against Fenerbahçe in the Europa League on 16 February 2017. His time in Russia included significant contributions to the club’s first-ever qualification for the UEFA Champions League group stage in 2020. However, his progress was interrupted by a cruciate ligament rupture sustained during an international match in 2019, which sidelined him for over fourteen months. Following the suspension of his contract in March 2022, he was released from the club.
Transition to Copenhagen and Return to Värnamo
Upon joining Copenhagen in March 2022, Claesson made an immediate impact, scoring the winning goal in his debut match. He subsequently signed an extension keeping him with the Danish club until 2026. During his tenure, he secured multiple Danish Superliga titles and Danish Cup trophies. In January 2026, it was announced that he would return to his childhood club, IFK Värnamo, upon the expiration of his Copenhagen contract, marking the next chapter of his domestic career.
International Participation
Claesson was a regular feature for the Swedish national team between 2012 and 2023. He played a key role during the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, helping the team reach the quarterfinals.
