Born in Chennai in 1952, this industrialist navigated the company through significant labor disputes and independent manufacturing transitions, eventually establishing the firm as a major participant in the global automotive sector.

Take the IQ test →Industrial Leadership and Process Management
Upon taking over as managing director of Sundaram-Clayton, Srinivasan faced severe labor unrest and declining output. He resolved the crisis by implementing Total Quality Management, a process-driven methodology inspired by Japanese manufacturing standards. By bringing in consultant Professor Lord Kumar Bhattacharyya, he modernized operations. Following a split from Suzuki in 2001, the company launched the TVS Victor, the first indigenously built four-stroke motorcycle in India. In 2002, TVS Motor Company became the first two-wheeler manufacturer globally to win the Deming Prize.
Diplomatic Engagements and Institutional Roles
Beyond his industrial career, Srinivasan has maintained extensive ties with South Korea, serving as the Honorary Consul General in Chennai and as the Goodwill Envoy for Culture and Diplomacy. He received the Order of Diplomatic Service Merit from President Lee Myung-bak and honorary citizenship from the mayor of Busan. Domestically, he serves on the board of Tata Sons, as a vice-chairman of Tata Trusts, and as a non-official director on the Central Board of the Reserve Bank of India.
Social Outreach and Legal Controversies
Srinivasan oversees the Srinivasan Services Trust, which operates in over 2,500 Indian villages, focusing on water conservation, livestock management, and women's development. His involvement in temple administration, specifically as head of the Thiruppani committee for the Kabaleeswararar Temple and the Board of Trustees of the Srirangam Ranganathaswamy Temple, has faced public scrutiny. Allegations regarding temple restoration practices and the theft of a peacock idol from the Kabaleeswara Swamy temple have resulted in legal investigations and ongoing court cases.
