Vahid Amiri

Iranian association football player

Vahid Amiri recorded his first goal for Naft Tehran on 6 August 2013 during a 1–1 draw against Damash Gilan. Born in the village of Darreh-ye Badam in Khorramabad, Lorestan Province, the Iranian professional footballer developed his versatile attacking style across several domestic clubs before achieving recognition as a regular fixture in the Persian Gulf Pro League.

Early Career and Domestic Development

Amiri began his professional journey with Datis Lorestan. He later moved to Gahar Zagros in 2011, followed by a two-season stint with Naft Masjed Soleyman. In May 2013, he signed a two-year contract with Naft Tehran. His time there included a significant performance on 7 April 2015, when he netted his first AFC Champions League goal in a 3–0 away victory against the Saudi club Al-Shabab. Later that year, on 16 September 2015, he scored during a 2–1 loss to Al-Ahli Dubai in the quarter-finals of the same tournament.

Success with Persepolis

In the summer of 2016, Amiri transferred to Persepolis on a two-year deal. His impact on the team was immediate, leading to his selection as the Iranian Footballer of the Year in 2018. During this initial tenure, he appeared in 74 games and tallied 9 goals. After spending time with the Turkish club Trabzonspor following an agreement in July 2018, he returned to Persepolis on 13 July 2019. Upon his homecoming, he received the number 19 jersey and helped the club secure multiple league titles, including the 2016–17, 2017–18, 2019–20, 2020–21, 2022–23, and 2023–24 seasons.

International Appearances

Carlos Queiroz invited Amiri to the Iran national squad for the 2015 AFC Asian Cup on 30 December 2014. He made his debut in a friendly match against Iraq on 4 January 2015. Although he missed a decisive penalty against Iraq during the tournament, he later recorded his first international goal in a 2–0 victory over Chile. His international career continued through his selection for the preliminary squad ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup held in Russia.

Education and Background

Beyond his athletic career, Amiri maintained a focus on academic pursuits. He holds a degree in law and began studies for a master’s degree in Physical Education in January 2016.
