Academic Career and Mathematics
Born in Odesa, Mogilnitsky graduated from Odesa University before relocating to Chelyabinsk in 1965. He spent the remainder of his professional life teaching mathematics at South Ural State University. His academic contributions included several instructional texts, such as 'Elements of Complex Analysis' published in 1989 and a two-part 'Introduction to Analysis' released in the late 1990s. He also co-authored guides for university entrance examinations and computer testing methodologies.

Beyond his mathematical research, Mogilnitsky established himself as a dedicated musicologist and translator. In 2000, he published 'Richter', which served as the first Russian-language biography of the renowned pianist Sviatoslav Richter. He followed this in 2012 with 'Richter-ensemblist'. Additionally, he translated Vladislav Dulemba's biography of Chopin from Polish into Russian in 2001.
Literary Pursuits
Mogilnitsky produced a substantial body of creative writing, authoring more than 200 individual pieces of poetry in both Russian and Ukrainian. His commitment to the craft spanned decades, eventually resulting in the 2015 posthumous publication of his selected works titled 'Sleepless paths', which archived a significant portion of his poetic output.
