Toni Kukoč

Toni Kukoč debuted for the Chicago Bulls on November 5, 1993, arriving as one of the first European stars to transition into the National Basketball Association. Born in 1968 in Split, he developed his skills in the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia before building a career that spanned from the EuroLeague to multiple NBA championships in the United States.

European Success

Before joining the NBA, Kukoč established himself at his hometown club, KK Jugoplastika, starting at age 17. He secured three consecutive EuroLeague titles between 1989 and 1991. In both 1990 and 1991, he claimed the Triple Crown and earned EuroLeague Final Four MVP honors. In 1991, he signed with Benetton Treviso, where he won the 1992 Italian League championship and the 1993 Italian Cup, earning further MVP recognition.

Chicago Bulls Era

Drafted in 1990, Kukoč joined the Bulls in 1993. Standing 6 ft 11 in, he provided versatility behind Scottie Pippen and Horace Grant. He contributed to three consecutive NBA championships from 1996 to 1998. During the 1995–96 season, he won the NBA Sixth Man of the Year Award and helped the team achieve a 72–10 record. He remained with Chicago until a trade to the Philadelphia 76ers in February 2000.

Later Career and Legacy

After his time in Chicago, Kukoč played for the Philadelphia 76ers, Atlanta Hawks, and Milwaukee Bucks before his retirement in 2006. His international career included Olympic silver medals in 1988 with Yugoslavia and 1992 with Croatia. He was inducted into the FIBA Hall of Fame in 2017 and the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2021. He currently serves as a special advisor to Jerry Reinsdorf.
