In 1981, Lee joined forces with bassist Nikki Sixx, guitarist Mick Mars, and vocalist Vince Neil to establish Mötley Crüe. The group quickly secured a reputation for theatrical performances and high-energy music. Their debut, Too Fast for Love, preceded a string of commercially successful albums throughout the 1980s, including Shout at the Devil and Dr. Feelgood. Lee gained notoriety for his elaborate drum solos, which often involved rotating rigs or aerial displays suspended above concert audiences.
Solo Ventures and Genre Shifts
Beyond his work with Mötley Crüe, Lee explored rap metal through the formation of Methods of Mayhem in 1999. His solo discography includes the 2002 album Never a Dull Moment, which incorporated elements of electronica and rap metal. In 2006, he co-founded the group Rock Star Supernova with Jason Newsted and Gilby Clarke. Throughout this period, he also expanded his reach into reality television, served as a guest DJ, and collaborated on diverse projects with artists ranging from Nine Inch Nails to Rob Zombie.
Continued Industry Engagement
Despite occasional departures and legal disputes involving band management, Lee remained a consistent figure in the music industry. He contributed to the 2008 album Saints of Los Angeles and participated in the Crüe Fest tour. His later artistic evolution saw a transition into electronic dance music, performing under the name Electro Mayhem alongside DJ Aero.
