Tim Skold

Thim Sköld, known professionally as Tim Skold, emerged from the Swedish industrial music scene to build a multi-decade career as a composer, singer, and multi-instrumentalist. His trajectory spans from the glam metal success of the late 1980s to experimental solo work, characterized by frequent shifts in genre and high-profile collaborations with international musical groups.

Early Career and Kingpin

Born in Skövde in 1966 and raised in Timmersdala, Skold began playing bass at age 12. Influenced by the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, he formed a creative partnership with guitarist Harry Kemppainen. Together, they established the band Kingpin in Skövde. After recruiting vocalist Zinny J. Zan and drummer Stixx Galore, the group achieved success with the 1987 chart-topping single Shout It Out. They subsequently released the album Welcome to Bop City before relocating to Los Angeles to pursue broader opportunities.

Transition to Shotgun Messiah

Upon reaching the United States, the band rebranded as Shotgun Messiah due to existing trademark conflicts. They achieved international recognition with their 1989 self-titled debut, which sold nearly 500,000 copies and earned airplay on MTV. Following the departure of Zan, Skold transitioned to lead vocals for the 1991 album Second Coming. The band eventually shifted toward an industrial metal sound for their 1993 release Violent New Breed, which marked the end of the group following public indifference linked to the rising popularity of grunge.

Solo Development and Collaborations

Skold launched his eponymous solo career in 1996 with an RCA-released album co-produced by Scott Humphrey. His material appeared in films such as Disturbing Behavior and Universal Soldier: The Return. Over the following decades, he balanced solo projects, such as the 2011 album Anomie and the 2016 release The Undoing, with contributions to acts including KMFDM, Marilyn Manson, and Motionless in White. His early experimental work, originally circulated as a demo titled Dead God, saw an official release in 2022, confirming his transition from traditional rock structures to more aggressive industrial compositions.
