Thuy Trang portrayed Trini Kwan, the original Yellow Ranger in the television series Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, appearing in 80 episodes between 1993 and 1994. Early Life and Migration
Born on December 14, 1973, in Saigon, South Vietnam, Trang was the daughter of Ky Trang and Be Trang. Her father, an officer in the South Vietnamese army, was separated from the family following the fall of Saigon in 1975. In 1979, at age five, Trang and her relatives fled on a cargo ship toward Hong Kong. The voyage lasted several months under harsh conditions. By 1980, the family reunited in California. Trang eventually attended Banning High School and enrolled at the University of California, Irvine to study civil engineering.

Trang studied Shaolin kung fu, earning a black belt that she credited with building personal discipline. While hanging out with friends, a talent scout noticed her, leading to an introductory acting class at the University of California, Irvine in 1992. Her first professional work included a commercial, though she remained committed to eventually completing her degree. She soon secured the role of Trini Kwan after an extensive audition process overseen by casting director Katy Wallin.
Power Rangers and Film Work
On Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Trang performed many of her own stunts despite frequently sustaining injuries on set. Because the show utilized adapted Japanese footage from Super Sentai, she primarily acted in scenes filmed out of costume. She departed the series during its second season due to disputes regarding contracts and payment. Following her tenure as a Power Ranger, she appeared in the 1996 film Spy Hard and played a lead villain in The Crow: City of Angels.
Death
Trang died on September 3, 2001, at the age of 27. Her death resulted from a car crash in San Francisco. She was buried at Rose Hills Memorial Park. At the time of her passing, she had been involved in planning further film projects with former co-stars Austin St. John and Walter Emanuel Jones, though these productions were not realized.
