Taisir Al-Jassim

Taisir Al-Jassim secured his place in football history as the first player to surpass 200 matches in the Saudi Professional League. Throughout a professional career spanning nearly two decades, the Riyadh-born midfielder emerged as a central figure for Al-Ahli and the Saudi Arabia national team, balancing high-level technical skill with significant contributions to multiple domestic titles.

Early Career and Al-Ahli Tenure

Born in 1984, Al-Jassim began his development at Hajer before moving to Al-Ahli on 19 June 2001. His integration into the first team followed shortly after, marked by a debut in the Federation Cup final on 18 October 2002. Over the subsequent years, he transitioned into a key playmaker, notably scoring a hat-trick against Abha in 2005. He eventually became a fixture in the squad, securing a four-year contract extension in 2009. His influence peaked during the 2011-12 season, where he earned recognition as both the Saudi Professional League Player of the Season and Best Midfielder. Following the departure of Mohammad Massad, he assumed the role of club captain in January 2013, guiding the team to a league title in the 2015-16 season.

International Representation

Al-Jassim represented Saudi Arabia in 134 international matches across a 14-year career. He made notable appearances at the 2007 AFC Asian Cup, where he scored twice against Bahrain, and participated in the 2011 and 2015 editions of the tournament. During the qualification process for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, he was a primary offensive contributor, recording 14 total goal contributions. He played two matches during the 2018 World Cup finals before an injury forced his early departure. He officially announced his retirement from international competition following that tournament.

Loan Periods and Final Playing Years

The midfielder occasionally ventured outside the Saudi league system on short-term loans. He joined Qatari side Al-Gharafa in 2007 and Qatar SC in 2009, specifically to participate in the Emir Cup. Following his long-term tenure at Al-Ahli, he spent the 2018-19 season on loan with Al-Wehda. In September 2019, he moved to the Kuwait Premier League to join Al-Nasr, becoming the first Saudi player to feature in that league since Jamal Farhan. His contract there was terminated on 2 July 2020 due to the global pandemic, marking the conclusion of his career as a professional player.

Technical Profile and Personal Life

Evaluated as an intelligent and technically proficient player, Al-Jassim operated across various midfield roles, including as a winger and central playmaker. His game was defined by effective dribbling, long-range shooting, and passing accuracy. Beyond his sporting achievements, Al-Jassim, who is a member of the Shia minority in Saudi Arabia, financed the construction of a Shia mosque in his hometown. He is married to a Lebanese woman and maintains a long-standing familial connection to the sport, as his brother Misfer also played professionally for Hajer and Al-Ahli.
