Early Development and Breakthrough
Introduced to the sport by her father, a firefighter and badminton committee director, Tai began playing while attending Mincyuan Elementary School. By the sixth grade, she qualified for the first division of the National ranking tournament, becoming the youngest player to do so. Her international debut occurred in 2007 at the Vietnam International. She gained significant attention in 2009 by winning silver at the Asian Junior Championships and reaching the final of the Vietnam Open at age 15.

Tai reached her first Superseries final at the 2010 Singapore Open. In 2011, she secured her first international title at the U.S. Open. By 2012, she was representing Taiwan at the London Summer Olympics and won her first Superseries title at the Japan Open, becoming the youngest player to achieve that feat at the time. Her consistency peaked in December 2016 when she ascended to the world number one ranking, a position she held for a combined 214 weeks.
