Professional Development and Academic Career
Born in 1949 in Warsaw, Kuryłowicz received his formal education at the Faculty of Architecture, Warsaw University of Technology. After graduating in 1972, he eventually achieved the academic status of habilitation and earned a doctorate. Beyond his practice, he maintained a dual career as a university teacher at his alma mater, contributing to the academic development of the next generation of Polish architects.

Kuryłowicz founded his own studio in 1983, a period marked by strict government control over creative expression. Following the collapse of communism in 1989, his firm expanded its portfolio to include diverse commercial, industrial, and residential structures. His work gained national recognition, leading to the receipt of the Gold Cross of Merit and the SARP Honorary Award in 2003. Among his most significant projects is the National Forum of Music, a building that stands as a primary example of his contribution to modern Polish civic architecture.
International Engagement and Final Years
His influence extended beyond Polish borders, as he was selected to participate in the international team responsible for the renovation of the United Nations Headquarters in New York City. He also served as the deputy leader of the Association of Polish Architects. In June 2011, while traveling in a light aircraft from San Sebastián, Spain, toward Portugal, Kuryłowicz died in a crash in Asturias, Spain. He was 62 years old at the time of the accident. He was later interred at the Powązki Military Cemetery.
