Two hundred and nineteen international appearances defined the career of defender Soh Chin Aun, a mark once cited as the world record for men's football. Known as Towkay, or Boss, by teammates and supporters, the Alor Gajah native played a foundational role in Malaysian football for nearly two decades, earning recognition across the Asian continent.
Domestic Career and Club Success
Soh began his football trajectory with Malacca in 1969. In 1971, he moved to Selangor, where he remained for seven years. During this tenure, he secured six Malaysia Cup titles. He returned to Malacca in 1979, contributing to a League Cup victory in 1983. His domestic career eventually concluded in 1988 following a period of inactivity that included a one-year suspension in 1985.

He debuted for the Malaysia national team at the 1969 King's Cup at age 19. By 1971, he was the youngest player in the national squad during the Olympic qualifiers in Seoul. He participated in all three group matches at the 1972 Munich Olympic Games. In 1980, he led the team to qualification for the Moscow Olympics, though the squad did not participate due to the boycott regarding the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. During the 1980 AFC Asian Cup, he was named to the Team of the Tournament, becoming the first Southeast Asian player to receive this distinction.
Administration and Political Activity
After retiring from international football in 1984, Soh transitioned into roles within the sport's administrative structure. He served as the chairman of the referees' committee starting 13 March 2007 and managed the national team from 2007 until 2009. Beyond football, he entered the political arena in 1986, contesting a parliamentary seat in Kota Melaka for the Malaysian Chinese Association. He was defeated by Lim Guan Eng of the Democratic Action Party.
