Samir Nasri

Samir Nasri made his professional football debut in September 2004 at age seventeen against Sochaux. A product of the youth academy at La Commanderie, he progressed through the ranks at Olympique de Marseille before establishing himself as a technical attacking midfielder in the top tier of French football and later in the English Premier League.

Early Development in Marseille

Born on 26 June 1987 in Septèmes-les-Vallons, Nasri began playing at local clubs before joining Olympique de Marseille at age nine. Scout Freddy Assolen identified his potential during a tournament in Italy against youth sides from Milan and Juventus. Within the Marseille academy, he advanced through various youth levels before reaching the reserve team during the 2003–04 season. In 2004, he signed a three-year professional contract to avoid the departure circumstances seen with players like Mathieu Flamini.

Professional Rise

Nasri became a regular starter for Marseille by the 2005–06 season, experiencing European competition through the UEFA Cup. He earned the National Union of Professional Footballers Young Player of the Year award during the 2006–07 campaign and contributed to consecutive Coupe de France finals. In June 2008, he transferred to Arsenal on a four-year deal. During his third season in London, he received multiple PFA Fans' Player of the Month awards and was named to the association's Team of the Year. In 2011, he moved to Manchester City, where he secured two Premier League titles and the Football League Cup.

International and Later Career

Nasri represented youth squads, including the team that won the 2004 UEFA European Under-17 Championship. He earned his senior international debut in March 2007 against Austria, later participating in UEFA Euro 2008 and Euro 2012. After leaving Manchester City, he played for Sevilla, Antalyaspor, West Ham United, and Anderlecht. His career included an eighteen-month suspension for a doping violation that ended in January 2019. He retired from professional football in 2021.
