Sadiq Umar began his professional football journey on the streets of Kaduna before rising through the youth ranks at the Football College Abuja. Since his breakout performance at the 2013 Kvarnerska Rivijera youth tournament in Croatia, the Nigerian striker has navigated an extensive career across Europe, featuring for clubs in Italy, the Netherlands, Scotland, Serbia, and Spain.

Early Career and Italian Football

After impressing in Croatia, Sadiq joined the Italian club Spezia. While he did not record a first-team appearance there, he excelled in the youth setup, scoring 26 goals in 24 games during the 2014–15 Campionato Primavera. A loan spell at Lavagnese preceded his move to Roma in July 2015. At Roma, he made his Serie A debut in November 2015 against Bologna and secured his first top-flight goal against Genoa shortly thereafter. He signed permanently with the Roman club in June 2016, remaining under contract until 2020 while experiencing various loan periods at Bologna, Torino, NAC Breda, Rangers, and Perugia.

European Expansion and Serbian Success

Sadiq moved to the Serbian club Partizan on loan in July 2019. His time in Serbia proved productive, marked by his participation in the Eternal derby against Red Star and consistent scoring in the Europa League. He netted a brace against Astana in October 2019 and registered his first senior hat-trick against Javor Ivanjica in November. This period served as a springboard for his subsequent permanent transfers to Spanish clubs Almería in 2020 and later Real Sociedad in 2022.

La Liga and International Competition

Upon joining Real Sociedad, Sadiq scored on his debut against Atlético Madrid. His time in Spain was interrupted by an anterior cruciate ligament injury sustained against Getafe in September 2022, which sidelined him for the remainder of the season. He returned to action for the 2023–24 campaign and made his UEFA Champions League debut against Inter Milan. In 2025, he transitioned to Valencia on loan, eventually securing a permanent deal with the club in January 2026. On the international stage, Sadiq represented Nigeria at the 2016 Summer Olympics, where he scored four goals and contributed to the team's bronze medal win.
