Born in Lisbon on 27 January 1985, Amorim spent his early formative years at Benfica. After a period at Belenenses, he returned to Benfica in 2008 on a four-year contract. Despite injury setbacks, including a serious anterior cruciate ligament issue in 2014, he remained a key squad member until his retirement in 2017 following a stint at Al-Wakrah.

Amorim earned 14 caps for the Portuguese national team during his career. He featured in two FIFA World Cup tournaments. In 2010, he replaced an injured Nani to join the squad in South Africa, debuting against the Ivory Coast. In 2014, he was selected by Paulo Bento, playing the full 90 minutes in a win against Ghana before Portugal was eliminated on goal difference.
Managerial Rise
Following retirement, Amorim secured coaching credentials and interned under José Mourinho. He commenced management at Casa Pia in 2018, where he experimented with a back-three system that became his tactical hallmark.
