The portrayal of Van Tuong Nguyen in the 2013 miniseries Better Man served as a critical breakthrough for Remy Hii, earning him a nomination for Best Lead Actor at the 2014 AACTA Awards. This performance launched an extensive career across Australian and international television, film, and theatre productions that has spanned over a decade of consistent screen work.

Early Life and Education

Born in 1986 in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia, Hii moved to Townsville, Queensland, at the age of eight. His educational background includes Ferny Grove State High School and Townsville Grammar School, alongside studies at the Queensland University of Technology. He later attended the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) in Sydney, graduating in 2011. During his NIDA years, he performed in the indie-rock band RAPIDS, which released an EP in 2010.

Theatrical Foundations and Television Origins

Hii began his professional stage career in 2007 with the Queensland Theatre Company's production of The Estimator. Before his graduation from NIDA, he performed with The Emerge Project, an arm of Switchboard Arts, between 2005 and 2007. His initial screen appearances included guest spots on H2O: Just Add Water and East of Everything, followed by a role in the 2011 short film Kiss.

Television Breakthroughs

Following his success in Better Man, Hii joined the long-running soap opera Neighbours in 2013 as Hudson Walsh. He subsequently secured the role of Prince Jingim in the Netflix drama Marco Polo, appearing in the series until its 2016 cancellation. His television portfolio expanded to include Simon Van Reyk in the crime drama Harrow, Ben Zhao in the comedy-drama Aftertaste, and Dalbert Tan in the Netflix series Wellmania.

International Film Projects

Hii has participated in several high-profile film projects, including the 2018 romantic comedy Crazy Rich Asians as Alistair Cheng and the 2019 Marvel production Spider-Man: Far From Home as Brad Davis. His filmography also includes the 2017 thriller 2:22, the 2021 feature The Princess Switch 3: Romancing the Star, and voice work for the animated film Scarygirl.
