Preity Zinta

A degree in criminal psychology and an English honours qualification preceded the entry of Preity Zinta into the Indian film industry. Academic Background and Early Career

Before transitioning into acting, Zinta completed her formal education at St. Bede's College, Shimla, earning degrees in English and criminal psychology. Her entry into the entertainment sector began in 1996 following a chance encounter that led to work as a fashion model and appearances in television commercials. This period of media exposure provided the foundation for her transition into feature films.

Professional Film Debut

Zinta made her screen debut in 1998 with Mani Ratnam's Dil Se.., followed by a role in the commercial success Soldier. These initial performances resulted in her receiving the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut in 1998. She quickly gained attention for selecting roles that departed from typical expectations, including her work in the 2000 film Kya Kehna, where she portrayed a teenage single mother.

Industry Success and Awards

Throughout the early 2000s, Zinta acted in high-profile productions such as Dil Chahta Hai, Koi... Mil Gaya, and Veer-Zaara. Her performance in the 2003 film Kal Ho Naa Ho earned her the Filmfare Award for Best Actress. Beyond domestic success, she participated in the international market, notably appearing in the 2008 Canadian drama Heaven on Earth, for which she received the Silver Hugo Award.

Entrepreneurship and Activism

Outside of acting, Zinta founded the production company PZNZ Media and has maintained significant interests in sports management. She became a co-owner of the Indian Premier League team Punjab Kings in 2008 and acquired the Stellenbosch Kings in the South-African T20 Global League in 2017. Additionally, she was awarded the Godfrey Phillips National Bravery Award for her role as a witness in the 2004 Bharat Shah case.
