A specialist in cryptanalysis and cryptographic protocols, she operates primarily within the University of La Laguna in Spain, where she has been a full professor of computer science and artificial intelligence since 2015.
Academic Foundations and Research
Born in 1968 in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Caballero Gil completed her undergraduate mathematics degree at the University of La Laguna in 1990. She remained at the institution to earn her doctorate in 1995. Her research interests encompass pseudorandom number generators, wireless communication security, strong authentication methods, and the development of secure mobile applications.

Since 1998, Caballero Gil has directed CryptULL, the cryptology research group based at the University of La Laguna. Her institutional involvement extends to membership in the Instituto Universitario de Desarrollo Regional and the Instituto Universitario de Estudios de la Mujer. She also helped establish the Spanish Network of Excellence on Cybersecurity Research.
Public Engagement and Recognition
Caballero Gil maintains an active presence in the academic community, delivering a plenary lecture at the 2022 Spanish Meeting on Cryptology and Information Security held at the University of Cantabria. In 2019, she campaigned for the position of rector at the University of La Laguna. Her work has received recognition through the Premio Día de Canarias para Jóvenes Investigadores and the Fyde-Fundación CajaCanarias Proyecto Empresarial award.
