Petr Čech

Petr Čech set a Premier League record of 1,025 consecutive minutes without conceding a goal during the 2004–05 season, a performance that defined his early impact in English football. Born in Plzeň in 1982, the Czech athlete established himself as a dominant force in professional goalkeeping, securing numerous domestic and international titles across a career spanning two decades.

Early Career and Czech Success

Čech began playing football at age seven for Škoda Plzeň, initially as a striker before shifting to goalkeeper at age ten following a broken leg. He joined the Czech First League side Chmel Blšany in 1999, making his professional debut at 17. In 2001, he moved to Sparta Prague, where he set a record of 903 minutes without conceding a goal in the Czech professional league before joining the French club Rennes in 2002 for €5.5 million.

Dominance at Chelsea

Moving to Chelsea in 2004 for £7 million, Čech quickly became the primary goalkeeper. During his eleven-year stint, he made 494 appearances and kept 228 clean sheets, both club records. His trophy collection at the club includes four Premier League titles, four FA Cups, three League Cups, the UEFA Champions League, and the UEFA Europa League. He also earned the Premier League Golden Glove four times and holds the record for the most clean sheets in league history with 202.

International and Late Career

Čech debuted for the Czech Republic in 2002 and remains the nation's most capped player with 124 appearances. He represented his country at the 2006 World Cup and four European Championships, serving as captain before retiring from international play in 2016. In 2015, he transferred to Arsenal for £10 million, winning an additional FA Cup before retiring from football in 2019. He currently plays ice hockey for the Haringey Huskies in the NIHL Division 2 South.
