Military Origins and Training

Pavel garnered international attention in 1993 for his leadership during a rescue operation at Karin Base. Leading 29 soldiers with OT-64 SKOT transporters under mortar fire, his unit successfully evacuated 55 French personnel. This conduct earned him the Cross for Military Valour. He subsequently held multiple international roles, serving as a representative at NATO headquarters in Brunssum and as a liaison officer at U.S. headquarters in Qatar in 2003.
Leadership within NATO and the Czech Army
Rising to the rank of General of the Army, Pavel served as Chief of the General Staff of the Army of the Czech Republic from 2012 to 2015. His strategic influence expanded further when he was appointed Chairman of the NATO Military Committee, serving from 2015 to 2018. Transition to the Presidency
Entering politics as an independent, Pavel secured the presidency in 2023 by defeating Andrej Babiš in the runoff with 58 percent of the vote.
