Pep Guardiola

Josep Guardiola Sala, born in 1971 in Santpedor, Spain, established a career as a prominent association football player and coach. His professional journey spans extensive periods in Spain, Italy, Qatar, and Mexico, marked by a tactical shift from a deep-lying playmaker on the pitch to a record-setting manager in the highest levels of European club football.

Professional Playing Career

Guardiola began his association football career as a defensive midfielder, notably playing for Barcelona. Between 1990 and 2001, he featured in 479 games for the club, winning 16 trophies including the European Cup in 1992. As a Spanish international, he earned 47 caps, participating in the 1994 FIFA World Cup and UEFA Euro 2000. Following his departure from Barcelona, he played for Brescia and Roma in Italy, Al-Ahli in Qatar, and Dorados in Mexico.

Managerial Success at Barcelona and Bayern Munich

After a brief period managing Barcelona B, he took control of the first team in 2008. Over four years, he secured 14 honours, a club record at the time, including two Champions League titles and the 2009 continental treble. He was named FIFA World Coach of the Year in 2011. Moving to Bayern Munich in 2013, he won the Bundesliga in each of his three seasons along with two domestic doubles.

Manchester City Tenure and Records

Guardiola joined Manchester City in 2016, where he achieved six Premier League titles and four consecutive league wins between 2021 and 2024. He guided the team to their first Champions League title during a 2022-23 continental treble. He holds the record for the most consecutive league games won in the Premier League, La Liga, and the Bundesliga. He departed the club at the conclusion of the 2025-26 season.
