Background and Education
Born in 1871 in Moscow, Ryabushinsky belonged to a family of the Russian Orthodox Old-Rite Church. His father, Mikhail, transitioned from a peasant background to mercantile success in the capital. Ryabushinsky received formal training at the Moscow Practical Academy of Commercial Sciences, eventually becoming the most successful of his father's three sons. His early life was defined by the dual pressures of his merchant heritage and a commitment to modernizing Russian society.

In 1907, Ryabushinsky launched the newspaper Utro Rossii to promote his liberal political agenda. His influence extended to the Moscow stock exchange Committee, where he served as Chairman. During the war effort in 1915, he managed the Moscow War Industry Committee, an organization that maintained operational autonomy while securing direct contracts between private entrepreneurs and the Russian military.
Revolutionary Turmoil and Exile
Following the February Revolution, Ryabushinsky openly opposed the Soviets and the inclusion of socialists in the Provisional Government. His rhetoric intensified during the All-Russian Commercial and Industrial Congress in August, where he challenged the Bolsheviks and their supporters. After supporting the unsuccessful Kornilov Affair, he retreated to the Crimea to address his health. Following the October Revolution and allegations regarding his financial ties to the All-Russian Teachers' Union, he emigrated to France. He died in 1924 in Cambo-les-Bains and is buried at the Batignolles Cemetery.
