Early Career and Software Development
Born in 1960, Baudiš pursued studies in information technology at the University of Chemistry and Technology, Prague. Following his academic training, he joined the Research Institute of Mathematical Machines. The transition from identifying a specific digital threat to commercializing a solution occurred in 1991, when he and his colleague Eduard Kučera established the ALWIL Software partnership, capitalizing on the political shifts occurring in Czechoslovakia at the time.

The business model underwent a significant transformation in 2001 when ALWIL began offering its antivirus software free of charge to home users. This strategy proved effective for scaling, with the user base reaching one million by 2003 and growing to 20 million by 2006. In 2010, the company rebranded as Avast Software to align its corporate identity with its primary product. By May 2018, Avast achieved a valuation of $3.23 billion upon its listing on the London Stock Exchange, marking one of the largest technology IPOs in the history of that exchange.
Corporate Integration and Diversification
In September 2022, NortonLifeLock finalized its acquisition of Avast, leading to a corporate name change to Gen Digital in November 2022. Baudiš joined the board of the unified company as an independent director. Beyond software, he utilized the R2G group, co-founded with Eduard Kučera, to diversify his portfolio. Notable investments include the Rohlik Group and the redevelopment of the former InterContinental hotel in Prague into the Fairmont Golden Prague, of which he became the majority owner in 2025.
Philanthropic Initiatives
Baudiš initiated charitable activities during the 2000s alongside his wife, Jarmila, later expanding these efforts through the Avast Foundation. In 2020, he and the Kučera family founded the Abakus foundation. This organization directs resources toward palliative care and support services for individuals with disabilities. By 2025, the Abakus foundation had distributed nearly CZK 400 million to various projects.
