Early Career and Muay Thai Success
Before 1998, Muay Thai faced a period of declining attendance and public interest. In 1999, Charoenphol announced her retirement from kickboxing to focus on a singing career and pursue gender-affirming surgery. She successfully underwent the procedure at Yanhee International Hospital later that same year. By February 2006, she returned to competitive boxing in an exhibition match at a Pattaya gym, defeating Japanese opponent Kenshiro Lookchaomaekhemthong by a unanimous decision after three rounds. She continued to compete internationally, winning a decision against Pernilla Johansson in Stockholm during 2008.
