Early Career and Youth Development
Maldini entered the AC Milan youth academy in 1978 at age 10. Initially deployed as a right midfielder, he transitioned to right full-back at 14. He made his Serie A debut on 20 January 1985 against Udinese under manager Nils Liedholm, replacing Sergio Battistini. By the following season, he secured a starting position and adopted the number 3 shirt previously worn by his father, Cesare.

Under Arrigo Sacchi, Maldini won his first Scudetto in the 1987–88 season, part of a defensive unit that conceded only 14 goals. This squad, nicknamed The Immortals, secured back-to-back European Cups in 1989 and 1990. Following the arrival of Fabio Capello, the team earned the moniker The Invincibles, remaining unbeaten for 58 consecutive league matches and winning three successive Serie A titles between 1991 and 1994.
International Representation
Maldini debuted for the Italy national team in 1988, eventually earning 126 caps. Over a 14-year international career, he captained the squad for eight years, a record 75 times. He participated in four FIFA World Cups and three UEFA European Championships, reaching the 1994 World Cup final and the Euro 2000 final.
