Acting in musical theater productions such as El Graduado and Todos eran mis hijos marked the early professional activities of Osvaldo Benavides. Born in 1979 in Mexico City, he began his television career at age nine. Since then, he has expanded his professional scope to include cinematography, writing, directing, and producing within the Mexican entertainment industry.
Television Beginnings
Benavides debuted in the telenovela El abuelo y yo, appearing alongside Gael García Bernal and Ludwika Paleta. By 1995, he secured the role of Nandito in Maria la del Barrio, which earned him the award for Best Young Lead Actor at the 14th TVyNovelas Awards. He followed this with a role as Chicles in El premio mayor. In 1996, he appeared in Te sigo amando with Claudia Ramírez and Luis José Santander, earning a second Best Young Lead Actor win at the 16th TVyNovelas Awards. Further television credits include roles in Preciosa, Locura de amor, Daniela, and Piel de otoño.

His feature film debut occurred with the 1998 production La primera noche. He later appeared as Rocco in the 2000 film Por la libre. His filmography continued with Piedras verdes, a project focused on the spiritual and philosophical discovery of the protagonist. Other early film credits include La segunda noche, Seres humanos, and the 2006 production Un mundo maravilloso, in which he played the character Curioso. Following this period, he paused his involvement in telenovelas and acting for eleven years.
Directing and Production
In 2022, Benavides transitioned into directorial work with the film Noche de Bodas, in which he also starred. During the filming process on October 12, 2022, on Majahual beach in Oaxaca, Mexico, two production extras, Marco Antonio Curiel Pérez and Luis Manuel Gutiérrez, drowned due to high tide conditions. A third actor was rescued from the water during the same incident. He currently resides in Tepoztlán, Morelos.
