Kasai grew up in Shimokawa and completed his education at Tokai University Sapporo Senior High School. He entered the international stage on 17 December 1988 during a World Cup event in his home country. By 1992, he reached the pinnacle of his early career by winning the FIS Ski Flying World Championships in Harrachov, Czechoslovakia. During the 1994 Lillehammer Games, he contributed to a silver medal in the team large hill event. Later, at the 2014 Sochi Olympics, he claimed an individual silver and a team bronze, becoming the oldest ski jumper to secure an Olympic medal at age 41. Across various FIS Nordic World Ski Championships, he accumulated seven medals, including podium finishes in 1999, 2003, 2007, 2009, and 2015.
