During the 1970s, she transitioned from musical teen-oriented films, particularly those starring alongside Tirso Cruz III in the popular Guy and Pip tandem, into serious dramatic acting. Her 1972 performance in And God Smiled at Me earned her a first Best Actress award at the Quezon City Film Festival. She went on to produce her own films through NV Productions, including projects directed by national artists such as Gerardo de León, with whom she collaborated on the critically noted Banaue: Stairway to the Sky.
Artistic Recognition and Accolades
Aunor developed a repertoire featuring patriotic and feminist themes in films including Himala, Bona, and The Flor Contemplacion Story. She remains the only Filipino performer to receive the Asian Film Award for Best Actress, an honor she achieved in 2013 for her role in Thy Womb.
