Nina Dobrev

Nikolina Kamenova Dobreva, known professionally as Nina Dobrev, began her screen career in Canada after moving from her native Bulgaria at age two. She gained international recognition for her performance in The CW's supernatural drama series The Vampire Diaries, where she played multiple roles, including Elena Gilbert and Katherine Pierce, from 2009 through 2015.

Early Development and Education

Born in 1989 in Sofia, Dobrev returned to Bulgaria for two years at age ten before establishing herself in Toronto. She pursued arts training at the Wexford Collegiate School for the Arts and later enrolled at Toronto Metropolitan University, where she majored in sociology. Her early performance training included ballet, jazz classes, and rhythmic gymnastics competition, alongside acting instruction at Armstrong Acting Studios.

Television and Film Roles

Dobrev earned her first major television role as Mia Jones in the teen drama series Degrassi: The Next Generation, remaining with the show for three seasons beginning in 2006. Following her departure from the program, she secured a lead position in The Vampire Diaries. Beyond television, her film credits include The Perks of Being a Wallflower, the action sequel xXx: Return of Xander Cage, and comedies such as Let's Be Cops and The Final Girls. She further appeared in the 2017 remake of Flatliners and held a lead role in the CBS sitcom Fam in 2019.

Entrepreneurship and Advocacy

Dobrev has engaged in business ventures, including co-owning a wine brand named Fresh Vine Wine with dancer Julianne Hough. In 2020, she announced her role as an executive producer for a television adaptation of the Woman 99 book series. Her philanthropic history includes supporting the WE movement, participating in volunteer trips to Kenya, and contributing to the Elton John AIDS Foundation and Project Pink.
