Moving to London on the pretense of architecture school, Nicola Formichetti spent three years immersing himself in the city's nightlife rather than attending lectures. Born in Tokyo in 1977 to an Italian pilot and a Japanese stewardess, he soon transitioned into a prolific career spanning international fashion editing, creative direction, and high-profile celebrity styling.
Early Career and Magazine Work
Formichetti began his career working at the London boutique The Pineal Eye, where he served as art director and head buyer. His breakthrough occurred when fashion editor Katy England invited him to contribute to Dazed & Confused. After launching the column Eye Spy, he rose to fashion director in 2005 and creative director in 2008. This editorial work expanded to include contributions for publications such as V, Another Magazine, Arena Homme +, and Harper's Bazaar USA.
