Winning the 2015 BBC Cardiff Singer of the World competition brought Belarusian dramatic coloratura soprano Nadine Koutcher to international prominence. Born in Minsk in 1983, she established herself through rigorous training at the Minsk State Musical College and the Saint Petersburg Conservatory, later securing major roles across prominent Russian opera houses and global festival stages throughout her career.
Academic Foundation and Early Competitions
Koutcher completed her foundational studies in 2003 at the Minsk State Musical College, where she focused on musical theory. She subsequently enrolled at the Saint Petersburg Conservatory, earning a Vocalist Diploma in 2011 under the guidance of professor Tamara Novichenko and chamber coach Kira Izotova. Her competitive trajectory began with a first-prize win in 2006 at the Mahutny Bozha Religious Music Festival, followed by dual first-prize awards in 2007 at the Bibigul Tulegenova Contest in Kazakhstan and the Irina Bogacheva Contest in St. Petersburg.

Her professional debut occurred in 2007 at the Opera and Ballet Theatre of the Saint Petersburg Conservatory. She joined the Mikhailovsky Theatre in 2009, where she performed as Violetta in La Traviata. Her tenure at the Mikhailovsky Theatre expanded her repertoire to include roles such as Princess Eudoxie in Galevi's La Juive and Oscar in Verdi's Un ballo in maschera. In August 2011, she secured first prize at the Mikhailov Young Opera Singers’ Contest held in Cheboksary.
Collaboration with Teodor Currentzis
In 2012, conductor Teodor Currentzis invited Koutcher to join the soloist ensemble at the Perm State P.I. Tchaikovsky Opera and Ballet Theatre. During the International Diaghilev Festival in May 2012, she performed the role of Medea in the Russian premiere of Pascal Dusapin's opera Medea Material. This performance earned her the Golden Mask award in Moscow in April 2013, solidifying her status as a significant voice in contemporary opera performance.
