Early Career at Ettifaq
Kanno began his professional journey at Ettifaq, remaining with the club from 2013 until 2017. Following the team's relegation in 2014, he played a role in their competitive resurgence, which culminated in the club securing the Saudi First Division title during the 2015–16 season. This promotion allowed the team to return to the top tier of Saudi football.

In July 2017, Kanno signed a five-year contract with Al Hilal. His tenure at the club has been defined by extensive trophy accumulation, including multiple Pro League titles secured in the 2017–18, 2019–20, 2020–21, 2021–22, and 2023–24 seasons. His contributions were recognized in 2018–19 when he was named the Saudi Pro League Saudi Player of the Season. Further honors include winning the King Cup in 2019–20, 2022–23, 2023–24, and 2025-26, as well as multiple Saudi Super Cup victories in 2018, 2021, 2023, and 2024. He also played a part in the club's AFC Champions League Elite titles in 2019 and 2021.
International Representation
Kanno’s international path involved inclusion in the 2018 FIFA World Cup preliminary squad. By 2022, he gained a more prominent role, starting all three group stage matches for Saudi Arabia. While the team defeated Argentina in their opening fixture, they concluded the tournament fourth in their group. He continued his national service through 2026, receiving individual recognition when he was named to the IFFHS Asian Men's Team of the Year in 2025.
