Born in 1946 in Geyarchin, Misir Mardanov established a career spanning academic research, high-level educational administration, and political governance within Azerbaijan. He earned a Doctor of Sciences in Physics and Mathematics, eventually focusing his expertise on the logic and foundations of mathematics while holding significant leadership roles in the nation's scientific and political institutions.
Academic Formation and Early Teaching
Mardanov completed his foundational education at Baku State University between 1964 and 1969, eventually earning his degree there in 1973. He later returned to the institution for further work in 1989. Throughout the period of 1973 to 1998, he served on the faculty of the Department of Mechanics and Mathematics. His pedagogical contributions included lecturing on analytical and differential geometry as well as the mathematical methods of optimal control. He also managed specialized seminars on optimal management and supervised student diploma research.

His career shifted toward large-scale institutional management when he became Rector of Baku State University in 1996, a post he held for two years. In 1998, he transitioned into national governance, serving as the Minister of Education of Azerbaijan until 2013. During this tenure, he remained active in the New Azerbaijan Party, serving on its Board of Directors until 2013 and subsequently as a member of the Political Council until 2020.
Scientific Research and Recognition
Mardanov has been a long-standing researcher at the Institute of Mathematics and Mechanics, where he eventually became director. He maintains membership in the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, which he joined in 2017. His scientific career is marked by several distinctions, including the title of Honored Scientist of Azerbaijan and the Shohrat Order. In 2011, he received the title of Honored Scientist of the Republic of Dagestan for his efforts in fostering scientific cooperation. In 2021, he was awarded the 1st degree 'For Service to the Fatherland' order.
