Early Career and Development
Born in Coimbra in 1986, Veloso entered the youth system of Sporting CP at 14 after a brief stint at S.L. Benfica. He initially trained as a central defender before a loan to C.D. Veloso secured a €9 million transfer to Genoa CFC in 2010. Following two seasons in Serie A, he signed with Dynamo Kyiv in 2012 for a €7 million fee. During four years in Ukraine, he recorded 127 appearances and collected four major domestic titles, including a league and cup double in the 2014–15 season. He later returned to Genoa twice before joining Hellas Verona in 2019, where he served as captain.

Having led the Portugal squad to victory at the 2003 UEFA European Under-17 Championship, where he earned the Golden Player award, Veloso debuted for the full national team in 2007.
