Early Career and Domestic Success
Trauco began his professional tenure in the Copa Perú division with Unión Comercio. His 2010 season concluded with a pivotal victory against Alianza Unicachi in the National Stage final, secured on away goals. After gaining promotion, he continued with the club until 2016, the year he transferred to Universitario de Deportes. During his time with Universitario, his performance earned him the 2016 Peruvian Primera División Player of the Year award, characterized by 39 appearances, 11 assists, and one goal.

Following widespread media speculation in late 2016, Trauco signed a three-year contract with Brazilian club Flamengo. He made his debut on 28 January 2017, contributing a goal and two assists during a Campeonato Carioca match against Boavista. His tenure in Brazil included success in the 2017 and 2019 Campeonato Carioca and the 2019 Copa Libertadores. However, changes in the squad hierarchy eventually led the club to facilitate a transfer to Ligue 1 side Saint-Étienne for €600,000 in July 2019.
National Team Representation
Trauco first appeared for the Peru national team on 6 August 2014 as a substitute against Panama. He became a defensive fixture during the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification process, appearing in all thirteen matches, including the intercontinental playoff against New Zealand. He also started all three group stage matches at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. In the 2019 Copa América, he started all six matches, earning a position in the CONMEBOL Team of the Tournament.
Recent Club Movements
Following his stint in France, where he was a Coupe de France runner-up in the 2019–20 season, Trauco moved to Major League Soccer. On 2 September 2022, he signed a one-and-a-half-year contract with the San Jose Earthquakes. He currently plays for Sport Boys.
