Early Career and European Transition
Born in Nairobi on 4 April 1987, Mariga began his path in domestic football with Ulinzi Stars, Tusker, and Kenya Pipeline. While a student at Kamukunji High School, he helped secure two consecutive National Championships in 2002 and 2003. By 2005, he moved to Sweden to join the third-division side Enköpings SK. He transitioned to Helsingborgs IF in 2006, where his performance quickly attracted international attention despite a failed transfer to Portsmouth due to work permit complications.

Mariga signed with Serie A club Parma in 2007, initially on loan before a permanent move worth approximately 1.94 million euro. He made 35 appearances during the 2008–09 Serie B campaign, contributing to the team's promotion. In February 2010, he transferred to Inter Milan in a complex co-ownership deal. He played his first UEFA Champions League match against Chelsea the following month. During his tenure at Inter, he scored a header against Genoa and remained with the club until his release in May 2014, with intermittent loan spells at Real Sociedad and a return to Parma.
International Play and Political Shift
Representing the Kenya national team between 2003 and 2018, Mariga earned 40 caps and recorded five goals. His international debut occurred in 2003, and his first goal followed in 2007 against Eswatini. Beyond his sporting career, he entered politics in September 2019. He was nominated by the Jubilee Party to contest the Kibra parliamentary by-election following the death of Ken Okoth, although he faced challenges regarding his clearance by the IEBC electoral commission.
