Between December 1939 and February 1942, he served as the Minister of Finance across multiple cabinets. Following the conclusion of the conflict, he left the Social Democratic Party and transitioned to the Finnish People's Democratic League, an alliance comprised of communists, socialists, and social democrats. Furthermore, he held the post of Minister of Defence from April 1945 to March 1946 and was affiliated with the Socialist Unity Party.
Prime Ministry and Presidential Bid
Following his tenure as Minister of Defence, Pekkala assumed the role of Prime Minister of Finland, leading his own cabinet from 1946 until 1948. His political visibility remained high in the subsequent years, culminating in his candidacy for the 1950 presidential election. He ultimately lost this contest to J. K. Paasikivi.
Death and Legacy
