Márton Balázs completed his secondary schooling in Odorheiu Secuiesc. He subsequently pursued his undergraduate studies in mathematics and physics at Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca. His professional involvement with the institution commenced within the Department of General Physics before he transitioned to the Department of Geometry. Following the institutional merger that created Babeș-Bolyai University, Balázs continued his work there, eventually completing his doctorate in 1968.

The core of his research focused on analysis and numerical analysis, with a specific interest in solving equations within abstract spaces. Academic Leadership and Retirement
Balázs moved into the Department of Function Theory and Analysis in 1972, holding the position of lecturer before being named a university professor in 1990. During the early 1990s, he served as deputy dean for two years. His pedagogical contributions extended to secondary education as he acted as editor-in-chief for the high school publication Matematikai Lapok. He also led a Romanian-language seminar on mathematics didactics for fifteen years. Balázs retired from his university duties in 1994.
