Early Development and Professional Entry

Born in 1978 in Kibawe, Philippines, Emmanuel Dapidran Pacquiao moved to Manila at age 14. He faced significant financial hardship during his youth, initially living on the streets while working as a construction laborer. After training in a makeshift gym, he transitioned to professional boxing in January 1995. By age 19, he secured his first major recognition by winning the World Boxing Council flyweight title on December 4, 1998.

Boxing Records and Achievements

Pacquiao maintained a professional record of 62 wins, 8 losses, and 3 draws, with 39 of his victories achieved by knockout. He earned acclaim for securing lineal championships in four weight classes, including flyweight and featherweight. In July 2019, he defeated Keith Thurman to win the WBA Super welterweight title, becoming the oldest welterweight world champion in history at age 40.

Legislative and Public Service

Pacquiao transitioned into politics in 2010 when he won a seat in the House of Representatives of the Philippines, serving until 2016. He subsequently served as a member of the Senate of the Philippines from 2016 to 2022. During his tenure, he also acted as the leader of the PDP-Laban party. In 2021, he declared his candidacy for the presidency but was unsuccessful in the 2022 election.

Diversified Professional Interests

Outside of combat sports and government, Pacquiao engaged in multiple industries. He served as a player-coach for the Kia/Mahindra team in the Philippine Basketball Association between 2014 and 2017 and later founded the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League. His career includes work as an actor, a singer with multiple platinum-certified albums, and an Evangelical Christian preacher.
