Academic and Pastoral Formation

Tagle served as the Bishop of Imus from 2001 to 2011, a period characterized by an emphasis on simple living. In 2011, he was appointed the 32nd Metropolitan Archbishop of Manila, a position he held until 2020. During these years, he participated in international theological forums and synods, addressing institutional challenges such as clerical shortages and the alignment of church practices with social justice concerns.

In 2012, Tagle became a cardinal priest, serving in that capacity until 2020 before transitioning to the rank of cardinal-bishop.
