Academic Foundation
Floridi earned his first degree at Sapienza University of Rome in 1988, graduating with distinction as a student of the history of philosophy. He moved to the University of Warwick for further graduate work, completing a Master of Philosophy in 1989 followed by a PhD in 1990. During these formative years, he focused his research on epistemology and the philosophy of logic under the supervision of Michael Dummett and Susan Haack.

His academic tenure includes long-standing associations with the University of Oxford, where he held various research fellowships at Wolfson College and St Cross College. Beyond Oxford, he served as a professor of philosophy at the University of Hertfordshire, where he held the UNESCO Chair in Information and Computer Ethics from 2009 to 2013. He also held a postdoctoral scholarship at the University of Turin and an associate professorship at the Università degli Studi di Bari.

In 2023, Floridi became the founding director of the Digital Ethics Center at Yale University. His work has been widely acknowledged, notably through the Knight Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic, awarded in 2022 by President Sergio Mattarella. Additional honors include the 2009 Barwise Prize and the 2013 Weizenbaum Award. He has also served as editor-in-chief of the journal Philosophy & Technology since 2010.
