Early Career and Pageantry
Born in 1980 in Netanya, Israel, Abargil began her career in the fashion industry at age 16 after signing with the Look modeling agency. In 1997, she received the Discovery of the Year award at a national modeling contest. The following year, at 18, she was crowned Miss Israel. She subsequently traveled to the Seychelles to compete in the Miss World 1998 pageant, winning the title before her predecessor, Diana Hayden, crowned her.

While working in Italy, Abargil was abducted and raped by travel agent Uri Shlomo Nur. After Italian authorities failed to prosecute the case, she reported the crime to Israeli officials. Her efforts led to the extradition and subsequent conviction of Nur, who received a 16-year prison sentence. Abargil maintained a public campaign against his parole, ensuring he served the full duration of his term. This experience motivated her to encourage other victims to report their assaults to police.
Film and Legal Education
Abargil shifted her career focus after becoming an Orthodox Jew in 2009. She pursued a law degree at the Netanya Academic College and eventually worked for the Tel Aviv District Attorney. In 2008, she initiated the documentary Brave Miss World, directed by Cecilia Peck. The film chronicles her activism, personal life, and pursuit of justice, and it earned a nomination for a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Documentary Film upon its 2013 release.
Later Professional Ventures
In 2017, she partnered with businesswoman Yafit Attias to launch LYA, a fashion label designed for religious women. Beyond her business pursuits, she remains active in international advocacy. In December 2023, she addressed the United Nations regarding sexual and gender-based violence connected to the October 7, 2023, attacks, where she challenged global women's organizations to address the silence surrounding those victims.
