Lara Gut-Behrami secured her place in skiing history by achieving 48 World Cup victories across three different disciplines throughout her nearly two-decade career. Born in 1991 in Sorengo, she specialized in speed events, ultimately becoming the most successful alpine skier in Super-G competition with a record-setting six discipline globes and multiple major championship titles.
Early Career and Rapid Ascent
Participating in FIS races by age 15, she quickly demonstrated proficiency in speed disciplines. In 2007, she earned silver in downhill at the Alpine Youth World Championship and secured the Swiss national super-G title. Her World Cup debut occurred at Lienz in 2007. By December 2008, she became the youngest skier to win a World Cup super-G race at 17 years and 237 days old.

Her trajectory faced significant challenges due to physical trauma. A training fall at Saas-Fee in 2009 resulted in a dislocated hip, forcing her to miss the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Games. Later, a left knee injury during the 2017 World Championships in St. Moritz ended her season prematurely. She adapted to equipment changes, moving from Atomic to Rossignol in 2011 and eventually to Head in 2015.
Championship Success and Final Years
Her peak performance included winning gold in the super-G at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. During the 2020–2021 season, she claimed a world title in super-G and a narrow victory in giant slalom at Cortina d’Ampezzo. Following the 2025 Saalbach-Hinterglemm World Championships, where she took silver in the team combined, a training knee injury prompted her retirement. She concluded her professional tenure on 5 August 2026.
