Early Career and Directing Style
After graduating from the Łódź Film School in 1954, Kutz began his professional journey as an assistant to Andrzej Wajda. By 1959, he released his directorial debut, Krzyż Walecznych. His filmography evolved to include notable works such as Salt of the Black Earth in 1969, Pearl in the Crown in 1971, and The Beads of One Rosary in 1979. Over time, he became recognized for his specific focus on the traditions and struggles of the Silesia region, leading to his reputation as a representative of the Polish Film School.

Beyond cinema, Kutz was an active figure in Polish cultural institutions. He founded the Silesia Film Company in Katowice in 1972, serving as its artistic director until 1978. His creative output extended to the stage, where he directed plays at the National Stary Theatre in Kraków and the National Theatre in Warsaw. He also served as the main director of the Polish Television branch in Katowice and lectured at the Radio and Television Faculty of the Silesian University.
Political Engagement
Kutz entered the political sphere following the transition to democracy in Poland. He served as a member of the Senate of the Republic of Poland from 2001 to 2005 and later held a seat in the Sejm between 2007 and 2011. During his tenure, he reached the position of deputy speaker of the Senate. His service to the nation was acknowledged through various honors, including the Commander of the Order of Polonia Restituta and the Golden Medal for Merit to Culture.
