Formative Years and Education
Born in Gladstone, Queensland, on 16 November 1981, Kate Melina Miller-Heidke moved between Indooroopilly and Auchenflower during her youth. She attended Kelvin Grove State College and Brigidine College before graduating from St Aidan's Anglican Girls' School in 1998. Her formal musical education took place at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music at Griffith University, where she earned a Bachelor of Music in Classical Voice, followed by a Master of Music at the Queensland University of Technology.

During her time as a student, she performed in various Brisbane ensembles, including the acoustic folk band Elsewhere, formed in 2000. Her classical background saw her win several awards, including the Elizabeth Muir Prize in 2000 and the Linda Edith Allen Memorial Prize in 2002. While gaining experience as an Opera Queensland Developing Artist, she performed in productions such as The Turn of the Screw, Sweeney Todd, and Don Pasquale. Her professional operatic debut occurred in July 2005, though the success of her track 'Space They Cannot Touch' on Triple J prompted a pivot toward her pop career.
Recording Career and Chart Success
Miller-Heidke released a series of EPs, including Telegram in 2004 and Circular Breathing in 2006. Her debut studio album, Little Eve, arrived in 2007, reaching No. 11 on the ARIA Albums Chart. She achieved further success with later releases, as Curiouser, Nightflight, O Vertigo!, and Child in Reverse all peaked within the top 10 of the ARIA Albums Chart. Her popular single 'The Last Day on Earth' reached No. 3 in July 2009. In 2019, she represented Australia at the Eurovision Song Contest with her song 'Zero Gravity'.
