Academic Foundation
Born in Al-Karak in 1954, Mahadin attended high school in Mafraq before securing a scholarship from the United States Agency for International Development. He completed a bachelor's degree at Kansas State University and a master's degree in landscape architecture from Louisiana State University. Mahadin transitioned between private practice and state governance for decades. He served as the Director General of the Petra Regional Council starting in January 1997 and held the position of Minister of Water and Irrigation from 1999 to 2000. In 2012, he was appointed Chief Commissioner of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority, where he chaired the boards of the Aqaba Development Corporation, the Aqaba Container Terminal, and the Aqaba Airports Company. His political service continued as an appointed member of the Jordanian Senate starting in November 2014.
Design and Scholarly Output
Beyond his administrative roles, Mahadin maintained an active academic and design presence. He taught at the University of Jordan, chairing its architecture department between 1991 and 1995. His professional design work encompasses projects across the Middle East, the Persian Gulf, and the United States. He has authored numerous papers on urban greening, regionalist architecture, and archaeological park concepts, contributing to international journals such as Ekistics and those affiliated with Rome University La Sapienza.
