A Memphis Childhood

Timberlake's solo debut, *Justified* (2002), and its follow-up, *FutureSex/LoveSounds* (2006), established him as a serious pop and R&B artist in his own right, producing hits including "Cry Me a River," "SexyBack" and "My Love." He founded his own label, JayTee Records, in 2005, and continued releasing albums through *The 20/20 Experience* and its second volume (both 2013), *Man of the Woods* (2018), and *Everything I Thought It Was* (2024), which arrived after a six-year gap and included the single "Selfish." Across his career he has won ten Grammy Awards, including Best Pop Vocal Album for *Justified* and Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for "Cry Me a River," as well as Best Song Written for Visual Media for "Can't Stop the Feeling!"

The Super Bowl and Its Fallout

Timberlake's most controversial moment came at the Super Bowl XXXVIII halftime show in February 2004, where a performance with Janet Jackson ended in the "wardrobe malfunction" that briefly exposed Jackson's breast on live television — an incident that became, in the words of retrospective coverage, one of the most infamous pop-culture moments of the twenty-first century, and one for which Jackson bore the heavier and more lasting professional consequences while Timberlake's career continued largely unaffected. A 2021 New York Times documentary later re-examined the incident and the disproportionate fallout both artists faced.

Timberlake built a parallel acting career, taking notable film roles as Sean Parker in David Fincher's *The Social Network* (2010), voicing characters in the *Shrek* and *Trolls* franchises, and appearing in films including *Bad Teacher*, *Friends with Benefits*, *In Time* (all 2011) and *Palmer* (2021). A DWI Arrest in the Hamptons

On 18 June 2024, around midnight, Sag Harbor Village police pulled Timberlake over while he was driving his BMW after leaving a dinner at the American Hotel, citing him for failing to stay in his lane and running a stop sign; he refused a breath test and was arrested on a driving-while-intoxicated charge, held overnight, and arraigned the next morning. His attorney said the team would "vigorously" defend against the charges. Days later, performing in Chicago on his Forget Tomorrow World Tour — his first show after the arrest — Timberlake told the crowd, "It's been a tough week. But you're here, and I'm here. And nothing can change this moment right now," and continued the tour, which ran to more than seventy dates across North America, the United Kingdom and Europe.

Family and a Reckoning with the Past

Timberlake married actress Jessica Biel in October 2012, after dating since 2007; they have two sons, Silas, born in 2015, and Phineas, born in 2020. His earlier relationship with Britney Spears resurfaced publicly in October 2023, when Spears's memoir *The Woman in Me* disclosed that she had an abortion during their relationship, quoting Timberlake as saying they "weren't ready to have a baby." Coverage at the time noted that Timberlake and Biel wanted the matter left in the past rather than revisited.

The 2024 DWI arrest, coming in the same year as a major album and tour, is a blunt reminder that professional versatility has not translated into an unblemished personal record.
