Jordan Ayew

Jordan Ayew began his professional football career in 2009 by scoring on his senior debut for the French club Marseille. A forward and winger, he has since maintained a long tenure in European leagues, primarily in England, while serving as a long-standing member of the Ghana national team, for which he has acted as captain since 2025.

Early Career and French Football

Born in Marseille in 1991, Ayew is the son of former Ghana national captain Abedi Pele and brother to players André and Ibrahim Ayew. He joined the Marseille youth setup in 2006 and signed his first professional contract in 2009. His senior debut occurred on 16 December 2009, where he scored against Lorient. During his time at the club, he played alongside his brother André, notably starting together against Arsenal in a 2011 UEFA Champions League fixture. In 2014, he moved to Sochaux on loan before signing a four-year contract with Lorient later that year.

Progression Through English Clubs

Ayew moved to Aston Villa in 2015, where he served as the club's top scorer during his only full season, despite the team facing relegation. He transferred to Swansea City in 2017, where he repeated his feat as the team's top goalscorer in the 2017-18 season, again during a relegation campaign. Following his tenure at Swansea, he joined Crystal Palace in 2018. Over his time with Palace, he made over 200 appearances. During the 2019-20 season, he became the highest-scoring Ghanaian in Premier League history and secured multiple club awards, including Player of the Season. He currently plays for Sheffield United.

International Representation

Since making his senior debut for Ghana in 2010, Ayew has accumulated over 120 caps, becoming the country's record appearance holder. He has participated in three FIFA World Cups, appearing in the 2014, 2022, and 2026 editions. Furthermore, his international career includes participation in six Africa Cup of Nations tournaments between 2012 and 2023, reaching the final as runners-up in 2015. Since 2025, he has held the position of team captain.
