On 30 November 2025, Jeffrey Davidson Bostic assumed the office of President of Barbados, marking the 59th anniversary of the nation's independence. His appointment made him the second individual to hold the presidency and the first man to serve in the role, succeeding Dame Sandra Mason following his selection by the Parliament of Barbados.
Military Service and Early Roles
Born in Bridgetown in 1960, Bostic spent over three decades in the Barbados Defence Force. His tenure included serving as an aide de camp to Governor-General Sir Hugh Springer and acting as equerry to Queen Elizabeth II during her final visit to the island in 1989. For his contributions during that royal visit, he was appointed a Member of the Royal Victorian Order. By 2006, Bostic reached the rank of Commanding Officer of the Barbados Regiment and served as Director of Operations at the RSS before retiring from the military.

Bostic entered electoral politics in 2013, winning a seat in the Barbados House of Assembly. He secured re-election in 2018 and subsequently joined the cabinet of Prime Minister Mia Mottley. From 2020 until 18 January 2022, he served as the Minister of Health and Wellness. Following his departure from the ministry, he was later conferred with the Order of Freedom of Barbados in 2022.
Ascension to the Presidency
The transition to his current role began on 16 September 2025, when Prime Minister Mia Mottley and Leader of the Opposition Ralph Thorne jointly nominated Bostic for the presidency. Because no objections were raised during the joint sitting of Parliament, he was declared elected on 7 October 2025 without a formal vote. He officially took office on 30 November 2025.
